Lapis Luna was founded in 2000 and is located in Napa Valley—Green Mountain. They create exceptional handcrafted wine at an exceptional price.

Lapis Luna started as a project for Hess Winery and the brand—Lapis Luna— means “Moonstone” in Latin, however most people interpret it to mean “Blue Moon”.

The Lapis Luna brand was founded with the goals that high quality, value priced, and varietal correct wine could be made if given the proper attention, and this starts with the grapes in the vineyard.

Lapis Luna is a brand — not a winery. The red wines are made under custom crush agreement with Green Valley Cellars in Green Valley, CA
(over the mountain from Napa). Randle Johnson, the consultant winemaker is considered one of the top red winemakers in America, and has won numerous awards for his wines. He is meticulous in achieving the goal of producing the best value wines in America.

The wines of Lapis Luna are sculptured by the winemaker to be soft, sexy, intense, and loaded with flavors.

Lapis Luna Chardonnay 2004—Malolactic fermentation was not done on the wine and no wood has touched this wine. The wine exhibits lovely tropical flavors characteristic of the Eastern Monterey region, especially Pineapple and Butterscotch. The finish is clean and crisp with a hint of citrus.
